Physical access control is a matter of who, where, and when. An access control system determines who is allowed to enter or exit, where they are allowed to exit or enter, and when they are allowed to enter or exit. Electronic Access Control is the process of electronically controlling access through doors, traffic barriers and turnstiles. Locked doors can only be accessed by using a card or fob which has to be presented to a local card reader. Systems are controlled from a central computer can operate over several thousand doors and can be linked to remote sites over WAN through the use of internet Protocol. Card readers include swipe, proximity and smart systems. Software includes a photo identification and badge module enabling staff details and pictures to be stored and printed onto the access card in addition to the latest biometric fingerprint models.
